Master Piece

by Terésa D

"Master Piece" is about a man's struggle with the 100 year monster he has created. Los Angeles hotel room,1915, a necktie can feel like a noose.

All 10 photos have either a vintage or a reflective texture to them. Vintage is key in that "Master Piece" takes place 1915, opening night for the film "The Birth of a Nation". This is an important night for "The Man", his "coming out"...his coronation as a filmmaker. He is about to be celebrated, at the expense of generations to come. He is being confronted with the consequences of his actions...and his art...thus reflective. The Photos: Mood: the color/temperature of the room has a sepia tone that resembles an old movie. Goal: This is a grand night for "The Man" for it is the premiere night of his most famous film. Backstory, Obstacle & Character: "The Birth of a Nation" is based on the book, "The Clansman", which has a Clansman on horseback on the cover. The Clan's main of source of transportation was by horseback during this period. Also the Clansmen were known for wearing intimidating hoods and mask. The woman in the Obstacle photo looks like a woman in duress, caught violently in branches and hands...she looks dead even. A strange fruit. Time: There is "The Woman" in the room with The Man". She is of a different time. She is from 1964. This photo reminds me of the trains/buses during the Jim Crow era. Settling: Though the landscape seems vast, this is a lovely, lonely world for "The Man" and "The Woman". And while they are standing in the middle of mess, they are standing there together. Relationship, The Unknown, & Discovery: How "The Man" sees himself vs. how the world will see him...according to "The Woman". Is he a genius for creating the first feature film or is he is he a monster for making heroic The Clansmen. And who's REALLY behind the making of "The Nation"? I hope you enjoy "Master Piece"!

Classically beautiful and packed with a punch. Art is suppose to comment on the society we live in and this shines light on our past and on our future. Great work to all of the artists involved. Thought provoking and powerful.

I hate to sound like a repeat, but it truly is "powerful" and "thought provoking". You throw yourself into your work and it shows.
