A Dream of Flying

by Georgina C

“A Dream of Flying” is the story of a girl who will spend her whole life trying not to fly, and a boy who would give his life to teach her. Throughout different stages in their lives, timeless love will bring the couple together and lift them off of their feet.

I chose "Angst" because it had the feeling I wanted my film to be. A lonely girl, desperate for connection. For Goal, I chose "Dedication". The radio announcer has dedicated himself to searching for survivors, Connected to this voice the girl is in Search for him as well. Visually the guitar struck out to me. I knew I wanted the film to be mostly silent, giving the character a stronger connection to material things as its her only source of human contact. For BACKSTORY I chose "Fires be damned". The gasmask lets you know the world is no longer safe caused by too much radiation. I thought it tied together well with why my characters were forced to be alone. Character I chose "Her throne was magic" I loved the idea of the main character growing up alone and forms a bond with her toy bear. The innocents attracted me combined with the loneliness of the girl being stuck with only her imagination to help her grow up. For Obstacle, I chose the photo âThe sharing Gameâ. I used this image when the girl tries to rip the bear out of the hands of the only one who could save her, and her reaction ultimately leads to their entire downfall. For Relationship I chose the photo âSharing a smoke.â When I first saw this photo I thought it was more or less of two men sharing their sins together in the same way that the characters of my story end up having to bare the sins of the world. The imagery of nothing left but smoke and dust after weâre gone struck out very strong to me. For Setting I chose âThe long walkâ. It just tied in with the apocalyptic setting I wanted. For the Unknown I chose âTrouble Aheadâ. When the radio announcer asks for people to find him it challenges her to leave the security of her surroundings and take up the challenge of the unknown road ahead. For Time I chose âWell Wornâ. I always felt that if we were shoved into a post apocalypse it would be brought back to the wild frontier where there are not a lot of amenities of the modern life. The image of the boots said it all to me. The last image chosen for me called âDiscovering Limitsâ inspired her finding a beautiful tiara that for me represented hope for a possible better future. She would find the voice on the radio who would sweep her off to a better life not clouded by loneliness anymore. Besides, every little girl wants to be a princess.

Pleasant to watch, beautiful sets and costuming, a fairly simple plot, but very appealing to aging Boomers.
